Joyce Curvin -- Whimsical Paper-mâché Birds

It's a bird! Learn how to turn recycled, plastic, paper, cardboard, and wire into a fun and fabulous feathered friend. During this two-day workshop, students will create their own, whimsical 12-inch-tall bird. While everyone will start with the same basic materials, each bird is guaranteed to have its own fun personality. Joyce Curvin supplies all the materials for this fun adventure.

Cost is $170.00 for Members and $215.00 for Non-Members. Space is Limited to 12 students.

About Instructor

Joyce Curvin was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, to a family who believed in reusing, repurposing, and recycling.  She studied art and business at Stetson University in DeLand, FL, graduating with a BBA in marketing.  

Joyce enjoyed a successful career in visual merchandising and store design for area malls and finer shops…all the while creating her art both on the side and as a part of her visual merchandising projects.  She has worked in a variety of mediums including clay, metal, paper, and wood all culminating in her current work in paper-mâché and mixed media.   

In 2022, Joyce was honored to be one of nine artists invited to take part in Florida Craft Art’s project Clearly Collaborative with Master Glass artist Duncan McClellan, working large glass pieces into her mixed media pieces. 

Joyce conducts workshops in paper-mâché sculpture at Dunedin Fine Art Center and has taught at other arts organizations and venues in Florida and across the country.

Several of her pieces are in the collection of the Marietta Museum of Whimsy in Sarasota, FL. Currently her work is available for purchase at ; Big Arts, Sanibel; Dunedin Fine Art Center, Dunedin; Florida CraftArt Gallery, St. Petersburg; and Safety Harbor Arts & Music Center, Safety Harbor.
