Katie Dobson-Cundiff
Workshop Overview:
Working from a carefully arranged floral still life, students will learn how to interpret — rather than copy — what they see. The emphasis is on capturing the effects of light on petals, temperature shifts within shadows, and rhythmic movement of stems and blooms. Instead of carefully rendering every detail, intentional, confident brushstrokes will be used to suggest form, allowing color and gesture to do much of the storytelling. The goal is not botanical accuracy, but emotional truth to create paintings where flowers feel alive, luminous, and in motion. .

• Artists wanting to loosen up tight painting habits
• Painters exploring impressionistic techniques
• Anyone seeking more color confidence and expressive freedom
By the end of the workshop, students will leave with energetic, visually exciting paintings — and a deeper understanding of how intentional brushwork, vibrant color, and confident decisions can transform a simple floral arrangement into a compelling work of art.
Cost is $150.00 for Members and $200.00 for Non-Members. Space is Limited to 18 students.
About Instructor
Katie Dobson-Cundiff's work spans a wide range of subjects, but it is her vibrant, boldly painted landscapes that have earned her international recognition. Working alla prima or en plein air, she creates paintings that capture a strong sense of place, light, and atmosphere.
Recognized as one of the Southeast's leading impressionist painters, Dobson-Cundiff has served as President of the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. She has received numerous awards in nationally juried exhibitions, including two Silver Medals from Oil Painters of America in its National and Eastern Regional Juried Exhibitions.
She is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), the American Impressionist Society (AIS), and American Women Artists (AWA). She is also a member of the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), and California Art Club. From 2010 to 2023, Dobson-Cundiff served on the faculty of Ringling College of Art and Design. Today, she travels extensively to paint and teach workshops throughout the country while also offering workshops, mentoring, and open studio sessions from her Sarasota, Florida studio.
